Exceeding the Business Model

People are cool and unique creatures. What works perfect for you, may not work exactly the same way for me when human factors come into play. Generally, anyone can duplicate someone’s business model and accomplish similar plateaus. The greatest challenge is to utilize your own special skills and talents to optimize the system or model and exceed the current results.

I’ve seen this happen over and over again with my own business and with my cleaning guide that I wrote. As for my own business, some of my employees have gone on to start their own businesses and used some of the principles that I valued and instilled within our cleaning service as a foundation for theirs. I couldn’t be happier for them. Two of the girls created a partnership and started a modern way of doing business. They started a day care center annex to their cleaning business as an added benefit and convenience for their employees. She took a look around at some of the reasons why some employees couldn’t work or was late due to not having safe and reliable day care for their children. They analyzed an age old problem and took the resolve to manage it so effectively that they’re well known as a great company to work for. They even have a 6-month waiting list for new hires! They have solid employees that are actually happy to go to work and all they have to do is promote the company’s services and grow; the sky’s the limit!

As for people utilizing my book, “The Maui Guide to a Successful Cleaning Business”, I’ve received a lot of touching and amazing letters and emails from some very happy and successful business owners. From married couples getting out of the rat race and spending all their time together growing their business and planning their future to retire young; to others that are single parents like me and have surpassed my own monthly income! Some have learned how to manage the business so efficiently right from the beginning that they never had to start out cleaning themselves. They acquired enough clients to warrant hiring someone right away, which gave her the time to promote and grow the business with her children at her side.

Being from Maui and loving the culture and the people, I’ve absorbed what the meaning of the aloha spirit really means. You give more than you take, and you treat everyone like family. We’re all connected and responsible for each other. It’s a loving way to live your life. That’s how I tried to treat my business; all my clients and employees were family. So, in regards to the earlier statement about the innate challenge to exceed a business model and take it to a new height, it’s also like watching your children grow up to create their own rich lives that far exceeds your own dreams for them. So, as a mother, a business owner or writer, I really want the best for everybody. I made my own way in life the best I knew at the time. Looking back I should ‘a, could ‘a, would ‘a, doesn’t matter. I’m a work in progress. But, if I can show other people a path to accomplish their dreams, and they can do it faster, better and more intelligently than I did, then right on!

Aloooooohaaaa!

The Journey of Creating Abundance

I believe every woman knows what success and freedom means to them. It could be overseeing your business and ensuring it runs automatically whether you’re there or not; and having quality time with your family and friends. It could be taking vacations and buying a big house or having a great relationship with your spouse or partner.

My ultimate goal was financial security and having the luxury of being around for my boy’s fulltime. As a single parent, I felt a ton of pressure to “get it right”; like the perfect house, new clothes, cool school supplies, fun birthday parties and interesting weekend activities and having a decent car. That doesn’t even include all the necessary things like healthcare and paying for dental visits!

It was really hard financially before I started my own cleaning business. I remember taking the bus to the grocery store and carpooling to work. I missed them all day while they were at daycare with people that didn’t love them and play with them the way I did. It was hard not to see them all day, just so I could make rent and buy food.

That’s when I began to map out how I wanted things to be different. I knew I wanted to have my own cleaning company, I did it before, and I’ve known a lot of people that became quite wealthy. So, I quit my job as soon as I landed my first client from an ad I had put out. A friend at work literally gave me his old wagon when he bought an old Cadillac. I was really determined to do things my way and provide a better life for my children. Within a few weeks, my days were full, from 9 am to 2:30pm. I was happy and on my way to creating financial independence.

So, how does anyone create abundance? For me, it was when I took 100% responsibility for everything in my life, good or bad. I was in control of my thoughts and actions. I desired so much more in life for us, I knew I had to do it alone. I used my current situation as leverage and did everything different from then on. I took small steps and before long, I was a successful business owner with self-confidence and time to be with my children. Sometimes you have to be fierce and push through your fears and obstacles that come your way. Once I took action toward my dreams, opportunities just popped out of the woodwork, that’s when I knew I was on track. Take notice when you experience coincidences at every turn; that’s when you know that you’re doing the right thing.
